Common questions
Can I use it before the other parent joins?
Yes. You can set up your family calendar, add the children and put in your arrangement on your own. Until the other parent joins, the arrangement is marked as unconfirmed. When they join, they look it over and confirm it or suggest changes.
How do I invite the other parent?
Open the Family tab and use the invite option. It gives you a link to send them. The link works for one person and expires after 7 days. If it expires, make a new one. A family calendar has two parents.
How do I set up our parenting arrangement?
From the Family tab, choose the arrangement option and pick a pattern: alternate weekends, alternate weekends plus a midweek night, every weekend, week on and week off, alternate weeks Monday to Monday, 2-2-3, or a custom cycle. Set the start date and the handover days and times, and check the preview before you save. Holidays and one-off changes are added on top without deleting the base pattern.
How do swaps work?
To change parenting time, you send a request. The other parent sees exactly what would change and accepts or declines. You can’t approve your own request, and if they don’t answer, nothing changes. If you’re still on your own in the calendar, changes save straight away because there is nobody to ask.
Everyday events, like a dentist appointment, don’t need approval. The other parent is just told about the change.
What can helpers see and do?
A helper is someone you invite, such as a grandparent or childminder. A viewer can see the shared calendar. An editor can also add and change shared events. You can limit a helper to particular children. The app never shows helpers private events, Google events or swap requests, and they can’t invite anyone or change who is in the family. You can remove a helper at any time and it takes effect straight away.
How do private events work?
When you add an event, you choose who it is for: your family calendar, or only you. An “only me” event is stored separately and nobody else in your family can see it, including in search. The calendar has an All, Family and Only me filter so you can see what you are looking at. Your own Google events are also private to you.
If you move an event you added from the family calendar to only you, it is removed from the family calendar straight away and can’t be restored by anyone else.
I deleted an event by mistake
Open the Family tab and choose “Recently deleted”. Shared events you deleted in the last 30 days are there, with a Restore button. After 30 days they are removed for good.
Can I export the calendar?
Yes. Open Settings and choose Export (with several families, pick the family). Pick the dates and children, and whether you want an ICS file (for Google, Apple or Outlook calendars) or a CSV file (for a spreadsheet). Parenting time and your own “only me” events are left out unless you switch them on. Helpers can export too, but only for the children they can see. For now the file downloads in the web app at app.twofrontdoors.com; the phone apps will follow.
How do I connect Google Calendar?
Open Settings, find “Your Google calendars” under Google Calendar, and choose “Show my Google calendars here”. Google asks you to allow read-only access to your calendars and events. Then pick which calendars to show. They appear in your view only, can’t be edited from Two Front Doors, and link back to Google Calendar. At the moment, connecting works in the web app at app.twofrontdoors.com, and is coming to the phone apps. The privacy policy lists exactly what we ask for and store.
How do I disconnect Google?
- In Settings, under “Your Google calendars”, choose “Disconnect Google” and confirm. We cancel our access at Google and delete the copies of your events. Nothing in Google Calendar changes.
- You can also remove access from Google’s side at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Choose Two Front Doors and select “Delete all connections”.
If Google says it needs you to reconnect, the connection has stopped working. You can reconnect, or disconnect for good. If access isn’t restored, we purge the copies of your Google events 7 days later.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings, choose “Delete my account”, type DELETE and confirm. If you last signed in more than 10 minutes ago, the app asks you to sign in again first (with an email code or Google). It happens straight away, and you are signed out. If you added family plans to Google, you choose first whether to delete the “Two Front Doors” calendar from your Google account or keep it.
We delete your private events, the copies of your Google events, your settings and your sign-in, and we revoke our access at Google (and at Apple, if you use Sign in with Apple on an iPhone). What you added to a shared family calendar stays there, without your identity, shown as “Former member”, so the other parent keeps their history. If you were the only parent in a family calendar, its helpers lose access too, and we delete it 30 days later. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription, whether you bought it in an app store or on the web, so cancel that first. There is more detail in the privacy policy.
If you can’t use the app, email hello@twofrontdoors.com from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete your account. We will do it within 30 days and email you when it is done.
If you only want to step away from one family calendar, open the Family tab and choose “Leave this family”. You keep your account.
Still stuck?
In the app, open Settings, then About, then “Contact support”, or email hello@twofrontdoors.com. To report harassment or misuse of a shared calendar, open Family members and choose “Report” next to the person, or choose “Report this invitation” on an invitation link. The person you report is never told and can’t see it. We are not an emergency service: if you or a child are in danger, call 999. The National Domestic Abuse Helpline (Refuge) is free on 0808 2000 247, 24 hours a day.
